While we can all rest at ease now that the mighty Sequoia has been saved in Centennial Square, the forests of the Cascadia Bioregion, which we are a part of need our help.

Four dedicated ancient forest advocates who worked to save Fairy Creek travelled to the Tongass National Forest in Alaska this past July/August. They were there to professionally document and produce a short documentary showing some of the 115,000 acres already clear-cut, or at imminent risk of being clear-cut due to corporate and political greed. What they saw were devastating clear-cuts right to the water’s edge.

In the short documentary, audiences will witness Joshua Wright, a young environmental watchdog teaming up with Wanda Culp, a fierce Tlingit matriarch, to confront political efforts to privatize the Earth’s last great temperate rainforest. Release of the film will be highly public with a unique distribution plan intended for impact.

The crew paid their own way and are not seeking compensation. Their need now is to pay the editor and sound designer currently working to finish the film so it can make a deep and significant impact this year because next year, many of the forests are likely not to exist.

Every penny counts to save these forests.
