Rally for Native Forests -  3 November 2024 - Save the Date!

Thank you so much for your support for our local campaign to save 592 hectares of native forest on the edge of Newcastle.  Recently four displaced koalas have been rescued and two killed where land has recently been cleared for housing estates adjacent to the land we are aiming to save.

Join us for the nationwide Native Forest Rally in Newcastle on 3 November 2024. Let’s send a powerful message ahead of the federal election: Protect our remaining forests! The rally will highlight the urgent need to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change by preventing further forest loss.

Newcastle’s rally is part of a national day of action led by the Bob Brown Foundation and hosted locally by the Link Road Forest Campaign and Communities for Sustainable Development. We are calling on Prime Minister Albanese and Environment Minister Plibersek to use Commonwealth powers to safeguard native forests and wildlife.

Come and hear local musicians, activists, and politicians share their visions for forest protection and learn about the threats facing Newcastle's forests.

Event Details:

- Date: Sunday, 3 November 2024

- Time: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

- Location: Birdwood Park, Newcastle West

We are gratefully meeting on Awabakal country

Council Election Successes

The recent council elections saw a positive campaigning outcome for Newcastle's forests. A majority of councillors, including the Lord Mayor, pledged to oppose further forest clearing. This strong stance sends a clear message: Novocastrians want to protect the last remaining native forests from urban sprawl.

Let’s keep the momentum going and stand together for our forests!

Join us at the Rally for Native Forests in the next step of our community’s campaign.
