An answer from the Department of Education to my enquiry about cutting the funding for the Latin Excellence Programme made before I started the petition. Doesn't give any hope but shows they give some thought to the children:

Dear Dr Rajala ,

Thank you for your query of 17 January 2025 regarding the Latin Excellence Programme.  I am responding as an official in the languages policy team on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education.

Given the fiscal situation this government inherited, there are difficult decisions to take on how money is spent right across the public sector to ensure we deliver on our priorities - including protecting core funding for schools.  The decision to cut funding is no reflection on the quality of the Latin Excellence Programme.

The department will work closely with the Centre for Latin Excellence (CfLE) to ensure that schools on the programme will have access to the resources they need to continue to deliver Latin after the contract ends to limit the disruption for pupils currently on the programme.

Schools will continue to have access to the CfLE Latin curriculum resources and supporting resources on OAK.

Yours sincerely,
