Dear colleague
This message concerns the Journal of Political Philosophy petition that was posted on change.org in April last year and which you have signed.
1. The former editorial team of JPP have announced the creation of a new open-access journal, Political Philosophy, hosted by the Open Library of the Humanities (Birkbeck). Bob Goodin (ANU) is the editor, and Chiara Cordelli (Chicago) and Jeffrey Howard (UCL) join Christian Barry (ANU), Nic Southwood (ANU), and Lea Ypi (LSE) as co-editors. Political Philosophy essentially reincarnates the old JPP with a new name and platform. You can read more about the journal here. See also today's post at Daily Nous discussing developments.
2. Wiley are hosting a session (G11B) on the future of the Journal of Political Philosophy at the Eastern APA next Wednesday 17 January at 11:00am. Wiley representatives "will talk openly regarding recent events, will be happy to field questions, and welcome engagement from the community to guide the journal to a successful future." Signatories of our petition attending the Eastern may wish to participate in the session to convey their views concerning the viability of a journal with (as yet) no editorial team and (in any case) no editorial independence.
3. In light of the above, I will close the change.org petition, although its terms remain in effect. A total of 1364 people have signed the petition, including 1110 members of the broader political philosophy community. It has been a privilege to see so many people unite in defence of the integrity of our journals.
Thanks and best wishes,
Simon May (Florida State)
