Victory!Our community has been heard

🌳❤️ VICTORY! OUR COMMUNITY HAS BEEN HEARD!

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we have gathered the signatures needed to make our voices heard.

The removal of the iconic Port Douglas fig tree at Rex Smeal Park has been stopped for now, and our next Supreme Court hearing is scheduled for 16 November 2026.

We are now closing this petition to new signatures, but our work is far from finished!

Public safety remains, and always will be, our first priority. We are asking for transparency, independent scientific evidence and proper consideration of all reasonable options to protect both our community and the environment.

🌳 Our tree cannot speak for itself.

🕊️ Our native wildlife cannot speak for itself.

❤️ So our community has come together to represent them.

💚 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DONATIONS

We have discovered that financial contributions made through Change.org do not go directly to our campaign and cannot be withdrawn to pay our legal expenses.

Instead, these contributions are used by Change.org to promote the petition and increase its visibility.

We sincerely thank everyone who contributed financially through this platform. Your generosity was not wasted — your contributions helped our petition reach more people, gain signatures and bring greater attention to our cause.

However, with legal proceedings now underway, we need to direct future financial support to our GoFundMe page, where donations can be used towards legal fees, independent expert assessments and preparing for our next court hearing.

If you have already donated through Change.org, please know how grateful we are. We understand that some supporters may have believed their contributions would go directly towards protecting the tree, and we wanted to clarify exactly how those payments are used.

Thank you to every single person who signed, donated, shared and stood alongside us.

Together, we have shown what a community can achieve when people come together for something they believe in.

This is an important victory, but our journey continues.

With gratitude, ❤️🌳
