Save the Hapeville First Baptist Church Stone Sanctuary from Demolition

The First Baptist Church of Hapeville was organized in August of 1884. In 1923, the first permanent sanctuary, “the old stone church,” was erected, using Stone Mountain granite. That “old stone church” is slated to be torn down within a few days. Most who have lived in Hapeville have been in “the old stone church” at one time or another and would like to see it saved. Whether or not a member of the church, many Hapeville residents and others have attended Baptisms, weddings, funerals, baccalaureate celebrations, kindergarten and vacation Bible school graduations and community events. The structure does belong to the Baptist Church. It is their final decision as to its future. However, the Baptist Church is a vital part of our City and of our history. If YOU can help to save this building, you will be helping to preserve a legacy.
