To ask not to stop respite for young people

The Issue

We the undersigned ask that the Council withdraw plans to stop offering respite for families who have children with disabilities. The resource is well used and is in high demand which would not suitably be met by the alternatives they are offering.It is time for the Council to put the needs of families with vulnerable young people first. We ask you to support our petition and demand that the grange stays open as a respite centre.

““The local branch of Unison claim we are closing the Grange – not true. “We are consulting on using the building to bring children with complex disabilities home to Salford, offering them medium and long-term care closer to their families - instead of placing them in facilities outside the city. “Unison claim we are proposing to mix children aged 14-17 in with adults at the Granville respite centre – not true. “If young people begin using the centre from the age of 14 they will do so either in a separate part of the building or at different times to adults. We take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously. “They claim we are cutting respite care for disabled children – again not true. “Specialist foster carers could provide care in their own homes for children aged under 14. “We are trying to maintain the best possible service to the most vulnerable in the face of savage government funding cuts. It would help if people dealt in facts, not easy rhetoric."”
