Petition updateSave the Dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC): They Are Killed Without WarningURIs are spreading like wildfire and the dogs are getting infectious pneumonia by the droves.

This is Duckling, at CACC.  The description reads that she has a URI and must leave by today.  The infected phlegm oozing out of her sweet snout reveals something different: infectious pneumonia.  By the phlegm it looks like bacterial pneumonia.  Sick dogs looking like Duckling are coming out of CACC in droves through Rescues and members of the community who adopted dogs with advanced URIs which are highly contagious.  We don’t know how many don’t make it and are killed at CACC.

1)This is a treatable infection and dogs can be cured with the proper veterinary care.  It is, however, very expensive to treat and difficult for the smaller Rescues and adopters.

2) If it’s bacterial, then it’s a secondary infection from an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI), like viruses such as kennel cough or the dog flu.  This type of pneumonia is very painful and debilitating.

3) All the veterinary sites say that dogs with URIs should be ISOLATED and their cages and blankets kept CLEAN!!

4). CACC  says they don’t have the room to isolate them; not enough cages…but they DO have empty cages and can do some rearranging!

This is another sign of irresponsibility by Leadership; of laziness and not caring.  And we are never given outcomes from the shelter or the Rescues, so there’s no accountability.  What kind of Leadership and Management of a shelter allow their homeless wards to suffer this way?
