Killed at Chicago ACC in the last two days, without warning, for no reason. Only one face among the hundreds who have died in the last month. We cannot stand this anymore. There is no leadership. It is mayhem. Chicago’s dogs and community deserve so much more. These are sentient beings who can teach us how to be human. They are our moral compass.
Lucinda (in the picture) Lia, Strawberry and Lorenzo (another playgroup dog, and a PUPPY) are dead because CACC did not try to save them.
How you can HELP RIGHT NOW:
The City of Chicago’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is seeking input for 2024 potential projects, one of which is the “2024 Audit Draft Annual Plan” and includes CACC on page 7.
To emphasize, this is a “proposed project.”
Whether they go ahead or not will depend on Community Feedback. (that’s YOU and your feedback)
https://igchicago.org/community-feedback-form/
CACC falls under the second open-ended question (Audit and Program Review projects from the Annual Plan), so skip the first question, it’s for a different audit request.
If people do not have a Chicago zip code, they may want to explain that they are a CACC networker, that they follow, share and pledge on CACC posts or that they have fostered or adopted (or facilitated fosters/adoptions) at CACC.
DEADLINE: Dec 31, 2023.
LASTLY, from my experiences with City agencies, this is very much a NUMBERS GAME. That is, junior staffers will add up numbers on each proposal and code for specific issues (like CACC). The other proposal — Public Safety/CPD — is going to have WAY more replies than the Audit proposal. So we REALLY really need to be on this and SHARE WIDELY.
You will see these:
Ignore the first prompt and skip to the one that says:
“Which Audit and Program Review projects from the Annual Plan do you think would have the most positive impact on the City? Which projects are most important to you as an individual?”
Here are potential answers you can say. Choose the one or two that you feel are most important. We don’t want everyone’s comments to sound the same.
You can split these up and add another one under the second prompt that reads:
“Is there something you would have liked to have seen that’s not here? For example, an issue that’s important to you?”
1) CACC has not had an audit since 2013. As a result, CACC has not complied with the standards of care needed to secure the humane and healthy treatment of animals under its care.
2) An audit would hold the CACC staff accountable for their actions, with more transparency to the public, so that CACC may deliver its mission and vision, putting the animal interest first.
3) Currently CACC kills one out of three dogs that go into the shelter and they confuse that number by categorizing the deaths. Where is our humanity if the shelter does not even attempt to actively save the lives of the homeless companion animals under city stewardship? Animal problems are people problems and if the city shelter is negligent, what kind of an example is it sending to the people of the community? To the
4) Chicago Animal Care and Control protects public safety:
• When was the last public education program run by the CACC on animal safety?
5) Does CACC assure the humane care of animals through sheltering, pet placement, education and animal law.
Talk about your concerns with CACC; ideas include how many animals they are killing, how they’re not prioritizing saving lives, how they treat volunteers, including the gag order they are under (which sounds unconstitutional to me, coming from a city agency), the way they’ve pulled back from working with area rescues, the way owner surrenders are killed and not given a chance to be adopted, the way the agency is underfunded for a city of this size, etc.
