. ♦️Call to Action♦️ September 3, 2023.  PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO THE FOLLOWING ALDERWOMEN AND ALDERMEN ASAP.  Below is the paradigm for the letter that you can copy, make your own, edit, paste and send to each individual alderwoman or alderman.

If you have a personal story with respect to an experience at CACC, please share it when you introduce yourself at the beginning.  Remember to keep it short and stay focused.

The members of the City Council are aware of the petition.  Alderwoman Nicole T. Lee has engaged one of our members in conversation and is looking forward to our testimony in front of the City Council on September 13.

If you live in Chicago proper make sure that you say so and that you are a taxpayer funding Chicago ACC. As such, you don’t want your tax dollars funding the killing of innocent companion animals.
You are outraged at the high salaries that the staff makes, leaving little money for the well-being of the animals who are housed there.

If you live outside of the Chicago area, CACC adopts out to people who live in northeastern Illinois and bordering states.  You can talk briefly about an adoption experience, what you saw, what you heard and how difficult it was.  Why you went there to adopt.

If you are a networker, talk about your experience networking, how you have felt sharing the posts about the animals at CACC

If you are a transporter, talk about your experience.  Are you transporting fewer animals from CACC?

If You’re an animal lover, talk about that.

For out of state members, PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING CHICAGO ACC AND TALK ABOUT THE NO KILL EQUATION AND WHY IT WOULD WORK IN CHICAGO!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL.

Here’s your paradigm:

I have written a draft/prototype of an email that you can send to the alderwoman and aldermen listed above.

Dear Alderman ____,

I am seeking your help with a silent crisis that is affecting the city of Chicago and the life of thousands of homeless companion animals being housed at Chicago ACC.  So far, 1,400 dogs have been killed since the month of January, and many of them were healthy, young adoptable dogs. Owner surrenders are killed instantly.  Fewer cats are killed, but die in large quantities as a result of disease, unhealthy practices and contamination that are hidden by CACC.  Entire pavilions of cats have been killed for these reasons.

Secrecy, lack of transparency and random, erratic decisions to “euthanize” dogs and cats are only the tip of the iceberg.

CACC has been lying about the facility being full and is saying that they are forced to euthanize due to space.  In fact, there are 18 broken cages that could have bee filled with dogs over and over, but for them it’s easier to kill than to repair or replace cages.  The exhorbitant salaries paid to employees do not leave much for the welfare of the animals.  Susan Cappello is never on location and she draws a salary of over $150 thousand a year.

CACC is not forced to “euthanize.”  They choose to kill because they chose not to save these precious, innocent souls.

CACC inflates its income numbers with owner confiscate dogs, then turns around and improves its live outcome numbers by returning these dogs to their abusers without altering them, so they can continue to be bred.

Of the live outcome numbers, 51% go to Rescues, whereas in a No Kill shelter, only 20% go to Rescue and the rest are adopted.  CACC has a 73% live outcome rate, which means that one out of every four dogs is killed.

No warning is given before CACC kills a dog, so that there is no time or opportunity to network the dog actively and find a loving, committed home for him/her.

The animals live in unsanitary conditions that result in suffering: dogs are confined to their cages 24/7 and only get out for 15 minutes two times per week.  Their cages are cleaned once a day in the morning, which means they are covered in their own feces and their bowls are also smeared with feces.  The blankets and quilts that kind members of the community donate are only used once in the dogs’ cages because they’re not washed and are discarded when soiled.

Only a few “favorite” dogs receive exercise and mental stimulation.

Kindly read our petition, so that you may better understand what is really happening at CACC:

https://www.change.org/p/save-the-dogs-at-chicago-animal-care-and-control-cacc

The last audit of CACC was done in 2014. It is time to do another to hold this government agency and its leadership, management and staff accountable for the suffering of our city’s lost or surrendered companion animals which they have pledged to protect and find homes for.

They should be removed from their positions and replaced by a qualified, passionate director who is trained in shelter management, will hire a qualified staff, have available a dog behaviorist and trainer and who embraces the No Kill Equation.

Kindly watch this video that explains this program: https://youtu.be/JCTt5JppNA8

The citizens of Chicago do not want their tax dollars to be spent on killing innocent lives, the public outside of Chicago has developed a negative image of our city. Even internationally, all eyes are on Chicago. Unlike most problems in our city, the No Kill Equation offers a solution.

The more our society kills sentient beings, the more people become hardened and immune to senseless death and suffering, the less human we become.

Won’t you please stop the killing?  Please respond to my concern.

Respectfully,
