HAZEL was one of 217 dogs euthanized at Chicago ACC last month, in April of 2023.  In March, 180 dogs died. In February, 137.

No photos remain of her, just a video of a beautiful gray Pittie mix with a volunteer at Chicago ACC.  Who she was, we will never know, only what the video reveals. We are all witnesses to her graceful steps.  She was curious and trusting.  Did not know about toys or balls.  Sat dutifully on command.  Patiently and respectfully waited for treats.

She had the gentle heart that would listen softly. The kind of dog that would keep your secrets, into whose neck you might cry when days were dark.  Quiet and soft, sweet Hazel, with a beating heart and a soulful yearning for a home.

She was gone, one night, without warning.  Chicago ACC did not alert the people who could have saved her: volunteers, networkers.  One day in the database, the other day gone.  Traces of her time on this earth erased forever.

If Chicago ACC had any respect for the lives they are supposed to be sheltering, and for the people of Chicago, they would be open and communicative.  Instead they act in the darkness of night, hiding as much information as possible.
