News has spread that The Como Motel is no longer standing. The owners, Houston based Pappas Bros, demolished the 70 year old motel despite our best efforts to work with them to save it.

Construction on Como Motel began in 1955, and in March of 2025 the Pappas Bros demolished the first and only motor lodge in Richardson, TX. The Como Motel was operational until days before the sale was final in 2023. Como was also the oldest, continuous member of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce.

The Como Motel was a quiet and good symbol of the community in it's early years. Sponsoring baseball teams, allowing people to come swim in the pool on hot summer days, and renting rooms to those in need whose nightly stay was paid for by local churches. The second owner of the motel, Bob Cheatham, was even arrested for renting a room to a black man back in the Jim Crow Days. That last bit of history is according to a Richardson Chamber of Commerce interview with the past owner, Judy Cash, the owner that sold to Pappas Bros.

In it's 70 year history, The Como Motel had 4 owners. The first 3 were good stewards of the building and the community.  We all tried to be good stewards of the building and the community as well. Thank you for your support in trying to revitalize, renew, protect and "Save The Como."
