Dear Supporters,

We are thrilled and deeply grateful to all 1065 of you for standing with us in our mission to Save the Carindale Library Makerspace. Your overwhelming support and heartfelt comments reaffirm just how much our community values creative programs and accessible public spaces.

Behind the scenes, we have been working diligently to amplify this story. We are grateful to Councillor Lucy Collier and Councillor Trina Massey for taking the time to hear our concerns and recognising the essential role that creative spaces like the Makerspace play in fostering community engagement and innovation.

Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with Steve Austin of ABC Brisbane to raise awareness about the importance of the Makerspace and our ongoing request to save it. Unfortunately, Councillor Vicki Howard and Councillor Ryan Murphy continue to misunderstand the significance of the space and the programs it offered. While we deeply appreciate the incredible work being done at The Edge by the State Library, it is disappointing that Brisbane City Council has not recognised its responsibility to ensure that all residents have local access to these vital community resources.

Our primary request remains unchanged: we urge Brisbane City Council to pause the sale or donation of the Makerspace equipment until a thorough review of the decision and exploration of alternative solutions has taken place. As time passes, this request becomes more critical to the future of our community’s creative opportunities.

How you can continue to help:

  1. Share our petition across your social media networks. Many members of the community, including artists and facilitators, are still unaware that the space has closed. Your help in spreading the word is invaluable.
  2. Stay engaged! While we await the Council’s review, we are committed to keeping the creative spirit alive. Join our Facebook group to stay informed about upcoming creative social sessions and community activities.
  3. Contact your local Councillor (or all of them!) The more voices they hear from, the more pressure they’ll feel to address this issue. Your direct advocacy can make a real difference.

We remain unwavering in our efforts to advocate for this space—for both those who relied on it and those who never had the chance to experience it. In the meantime, we are actively seeking a new space to continue offering creative programs and access to essential equipment for our community.Thank you once again for your incredible support.

With gratitude,
The Carindale Community Makerspace Group
