Save the burning himalayas: act now to prevent forest fires
El problema
We are deeply concerned about the Himalayan forests of Uttarakhand, and all the Himalayas.
These sacred forests, stretching from Pithoragarh to Uttarkashi and Chamoli to Tehri, are being destroyed by widespread forest fires. Fires are occurring across nearly every district, caused by natural factors and human activities, including some local practices such as open burning of pastures.
Unfortunately, local authorities and some community members have not taken sufficient action to prevent or contain these fires. We cannot stay silent while these forests burn ,the Himalayas are vital not only for Uttarakhand but for our planet.
⛵ We are all in the same boat; this is an urgent emergency for ecosystems, wildlife, and humanity.
The scale of destruction is heartbreaking: wildlife fleeing, water sources drying up, and ancient forests reduced to ashes. These fires are not only an environmental catastrophe, they are also a spiritual and cultural loss. The Himalayas are home to sacred rivers and deities, forming the heritage of this region and the world.
We call on the Government of Uttarakhand, the Forest Minister, and all relevant authorities to immediately implement a comprehensive fire prevention and management strategy, including:
-Early detection systems and rapid response teams in every forest block
-Community awareness and education programs to prevent accidental and intentional fires
-Strict monitoring and enforcement against harmful practices
-Reforestation and ecological recovery of burned areas
🫶 We also call upon environmental organizations, concerned citizens, and the international community to support this urgent cause. Together, we can protect the Himalayas, safeguard their ecosystems, and preserve their spiritual and cultural essence for future generations.
