On November 2, 2022 Lower Makefield Supervisors will consider a proposal to hire the Avison Young firm to write a request for proposals for the future of Patterson Farm. Agenda item #12 under Community Development mentions the proposal. If approved, the look and use of Patterson Farm is likely to change dramatically, with substantial costs to taxpayers occurring. NOW is the time to speak up and let elected officials know we demand their accountability to responsibly steward the farm we voted to preserve!
The highest and best use, and most cost-effective plan for Patterson Farm, is for it to remain a working farm. We call on elected officials to respect the township’s designated Agricultural Security Area by NOT allowing encroaching, non-agricultural uses that conflict with farming and alter the look and purpose of the farm we love. Patterson Farm has fed our community and world for over 300 years. Now it’s our generation’s responsibility to manage it well for the next generation.
Our preservation group, Patterson Farm Preservation, Inc., has offered Lower Makefield Township a plan to restore historic Satterthwaite House without cost to taxpayers. But elected officials have been less than receptive. The creation of Patterson Agriculture & Heritage Center in historic Satterthwaite House will promote and support the continuation of agriculture, provide educational programming to the public, and preserve the farm and its wildlife habitat for future generations, without changing the beautiful farm views everyone enjoys.
Your support is needed! Please visit www.lmt.org for full meeting agenda, then attend the supervisors meeting to give public comment, or call in your support for preservation and the creation Patterson Agriculture & Heritage Center in a restored Satterthwaite House. Local farms matter! YOUR input matters, because once our American farms are lost we never get them back. Thank you for supporting our heritage and future.
