Patterson Farm Preservation, Inc. 501c3

Jul 20, 2016
Unfortunately there is extremely sad news to report on the future of Patterson Farm. Lower Makefield Township Supervisors approved a rent-reduced ten-year lease for an art group to occupy the historic Patterson Janney-Brown farmhouse. The new lease is for a non-agricultural use and releases the tenant art group from tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance and lawn care expenses that they incurred in a prior lease. Those costs are now placed on the backs of the taxpayers who voted to preserve the farm. It's a bad deal for taxpayers and the farm.
Sadly, the signing of the new lease ushers in the first time in 333 years that a farmer will NOT have a home on Patterson Farm. This is a devastating blow to the preservation effort to save one of Pennsylvania's most important historic farms. The beautiful Janney-Brown house you see in the picture that has housed farmers since 1837 will likely never provide a home for a farmer ever again. The new lease is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2016.
