Dear Supporters of the Arb,

To keep you informed: We plan to present the Save the Arb petition signatures to the University of Michigan Regents and to Ann Arbor City Council in the fall, along with our request to implement permanent protection of the Arb.

Also, we thought you would enjoy this beautiful essay written by J.T. Bowers, one of many stewards of the Arb. (illustration by Caili Dalian, citation: Michigan Alum Magazine, Summer 2025)

We continue to appreciate the decision by UM leaders who stated in an update of the Campus Plan 2050, that the “The university is dedicated to the preservation of the Nichols Arboretum which, for more than a century, has been nurtured and appreciated as a special and unique natural community resource. For these reasons, U-M plans to only consider potential routes that would not pass through the Arb.”

Please take a few moments to write to decision makers below and thank them for their decision to protect the Arb from the route of the planned automated transit system. Our collective efforts helped to reach this point. It is important that protection continues in perpetuity for generations to come.

UM Regents         umregents@umich.edu
