Great work keeping the pressure up on our representatives!  We're seeing more and more media about walking and cycling improvements, as seen in today's Sun-Herald -

NSW Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes ... said he wanted to work with councils and his colleague the Transport Minister to use public space to promote active transport, adding that roads themselves were public space.

“I'm very aware that Sydney is not a cycle-friendly city and much of that is the way in which the road network is shaped," he said. "We need to use open space to promote alternatives like safe cycling and running and walking because there's a real public health benefit to this."

Alexandra Canal cycleway was mentioned specifically:

The state government also plans to rip up a popular cycleway, cutting the Alexandria Canal Cycleway at both ends to make way for the Sydney Gateway motorway to the airport.

Mr Stokes said the question of cycleways on motorways was moving outside his portfolio but “these are the sorts of discussions” he would have with colleagues.

“We need to make sure that those spaces are usable. Around freeways we leave plenty of open space, the question is how do we use that effectively.”

We encourage you to contact Mr Stokes and make him aware of our 3 asks.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support!

Please continue sharing this petition with your friends and community who want better walking and cycling infrastructure.
We continue to await design details from the Sydney Gateway project.
