Save Tallaght Village from a flawed enhancement scheme
The Issue
As lifelong residents of Tallaght Village, many of us spanning three to five generations, we are deeply concerned about the proposed changes in the Part 8 Tallaght Village Enhancement Scheme. This plan threatens to disrupt our daily lives and the character of our cherished community.
The proposed enhancements may seem appealing at first glance, but they come with serious drawbacks. Under these plans, all business and resident parking bays will be removed, and the roads will be restricted solely to buses and bicycles. This approach could potentially split our village in two, creating barriers for local businesses, residents, and visitors.
For the residents of this historic village, these changes are not just inconveniences but threats to our livelihood and well-being. Imagine the difficulties that our elderly, parents with young children, or small business owners would face in finding parking or loading goods. The search for parking not only increases stress but raises legitimate concerns about safety and security, especially when considering the valuable time lost and extra distance to carry groceries or assist family and friends visiting us.
This plan not only jeopardizes local businesses that are vital to our economy, but also dismisses the importance of accessibility for families who have lived here for generations. When a village loses easy access for its residents and visitors, it risks losing its spirit and culture as well.
We urge the local authorities to reconsider the current Part 8 plans and work collaboratively with the community to find a solution that respects and preserves our way of life. It's essential to have an enhancement scheme that truly enhances rather than disrupts and divides.
We, therefore, call upon everyone who loves Tallaght Village to support our fight by signing this petition. Together, let's preserve our heritage and ensure that Tallaght remains a vibrant and inclusive place for generations to come.
South Dublin County Councillors will vote on this Part 8 on the 8th June 2026. Please let your local Councillor know that you support the Residents and Business of Tallaght Village and want them to Vote NO to the Part 8.
