EMAIL TEMPLATE:

Dear [MP's Name],

I am writing as a constituent to express my concern about the proposed closure and relocation of maternity services at St Helier Hospital.

These services are vital to families across Sutton, Merton and surrounding areas, and I am concerned about the potential impact that relocation could have on access to safe and timely maternity care.

Pregnancy and childbirth can be unpredictable, and the prospect of women having to travel further for essential maternity services raises important questions about emergency response times, accessibility, patient safety and the capacity of neighbouring hospitals.

While I recognise the need for investment in modern healthcare facilities, I strongly believe that any decisions about the future of St Helier's maternity services must prioritise the safety and needs of women, babies and local families.

I would therefore appreciate your response to the following questions:

  1. What is your position on the proposed closure and relocation of maternity services at St Helier Hospital?
  2. What action are you taking to represent the concerns of local residents and maternity staff?
  3. Have you sought assurances regarding patient safety, travel times and the capacity of alternative maternity facilities?
  4. Will you support calls for meaningful public consultation and full transparency before any final decisions are made?
  5. Will you advocate for retaining accessible maternity services at St Helier Hospital?

Over 1,000 people have already signed a petition calling for the protection of these services, demonstrating the strength of concern within our community.

I urge you to listen to your constituents and take meaningful action to help protect local maternity care.

I would appreciate a response outlining your position and the steps you intend to take.
