Thank you to everyone who has signed our petition to support saving Roosevelt. I am reaching out to give an important update and ask for your help.

The owner of the historic Strand Theatre (Pontiac, MI) recently presented an offer to the WB School District to purchase and redevelop the historic Roosevelt Elementary School. The offer was rejected without explanation or counter.

Things to note:

1. The offer was NOT presented to the School Board for vote as promised

2. The offer was rejected by an Assistant Superintendent – and not the Board of Education

3. No counter-offer was made

4. The offer had a clause ensuring that a building would go back to the District if it wasn’t used as residential (eliminating the concern regarding a charter school)

5. The WB School District has a $1.7M deficit and the sale of Roosevelt would help lessen the burden as it would go to the General Fund.

6. Bond money would be used to demolish Roosevelt (slated for Summer 2024)

We need your help and support!

1. Speak at the WB Board of Education Meeting on Monday, November 20th @7pm (WBHS)

2. Email the Board of Education (wbfboe@wbsd.org) demanding transparency and fiscal responsibility.
