Dear all

As you may be aware, South Dublin County Council has commenced a formal Part 8 consultation process in respect of their proposals for the Rathfarnham Castle Courtyards and Stables.

This consultation process is open until 11.59pm on 20 June. You can review the council's plans and make a submission here

I am keen to see the redevelopment of these derelict buildings proceed and the investment in our community will be very welcome. The council has come a long way from it's original proposals which would have simply placed a new "glass box" development on the site and the latest plans include much to be genuinely exicted about.

The council's latest plans involve the refurbishment of the existing stable buildings and courtyards and the creation of a new cafe and restaurant, the creation of new multi-purpose event spaces which can be used by the community for arts, music, culture, etc, provision of new public toilets, studio/workshop spaces, retail space and space for historical exhibits. It will also allow for enhanced links with Rathfarnham Village.

However, the issue of the proposed new car park in the Seán Keating garden remains in the latest plans, despite significant public opposition which has been made clear to the council. I am continuing to work with local residents associations and other local Councillors and TDs to push the council to rethink this proposal.

To this end, I'd like to let you know that a public meeting about the castle development is being held on Tuesday 10 June at 7.30pm in the Ruah Centre, Ballyroan, D14 T0C8. A number of residents associations will be presenting their proposals for the redevelopment and a number of local representatives will also be present to hear from you.

As noted above, I would strongly urge you to give your feedback to the council in relation to its plans by Friday 20 June

A huge thank you again to everyone who has signed this petition and contacted me about this matter.

Best wishes

Ciarán Ahern TD
