And so our efforts to save the Railway House, and enormous bunya bunya tree continue.

We are ramping up now as time is running out. See link to the article in Autumn's local Beaconsfield Banner

Beaconsfield Banner Autumn 2023 - The Ongoing Fight to Save the Historical Railway House From Demolition

This amazing tree has stood proudly in front of the Railway House for 144 years. It is a survivor from the original garden and nothing has threatened its survival until now. Not floods, or drought or suburbia. In an age where we value our environment and acknowledge that we must do more to protect nature it is considered ok to fell this marvellous reminder of yesteryear. If only it could talk of the changes it has seen. It is an icon of the town and can be seen from miles (kilometres) away.

As the House needs to go to make way for the LXRP for the road bridge over rail, so too does the tree. An indigenous, long lived, slow growing tree that is rare in Victoria. It has Council protection and cannot be felled, lopped or pruned without a Council permit. We can only hope that the Council stands firm on this.

Watch this space for news to come, and how you can help us in our efforts to save the House and the bunya bunya tree, Beaconsfield cannot afford to lose them.
