Dear magnificent members of the Passing Clouds community,
In our last update we reported that our beloved mothership has sadly been seized and taken over by the Agents of the Nothing, acting on behalf of Landhold Developments. Now our beautiful flags and signs have been ripped down and our majestic (and highly valuable) artwork painted over in grey. GREY. Not even black, which at least has some drama to it. Just grey, thus perfectly and poetically demonstrating the effects of the malignant, lumbering behemoth of tedious gentrification and property development on the vibrant, colourful, delightful and magical elements of humanity that Passing Clouds has strived to nurture and represent for the last decade.
But FEAR NOT. We are viewing the grey splurge of Nothing as UNDERCOATING for when we get our building back!! Our application to turn our home into an Asset of Community Value is currently being considered by Hackney Council and there is a high chance that we will win this epic battle. There have been several cases of venues being taken over by developers, evicted, boarded up just like us, and yet they have RECLAIMED their venue thanks to being granted Asset of Community Value status. So to those thinking that we have lost and will never get our venue back, it can be done, it has been done, and we will not stop fighting until it IS done for Passing Clouds.
This is why we are now redirecting our petition to Meg Hillier MP and the decision makers at Hackney Council to urge them to push through our ACV application as soon as possible, so we can get our building back before any more irreversible damage is done to it by Landhold. Please also start sharing this petition again so we can get a new surge in signatures!
We also hope you will join us on Saturday 17th September for our epic March to Save Passing Clouds & London’s Dying Music Scene! With the sad closure of Fabric, the issue of venue closure is coming to the fore in the national news and we want to give them one hell of show for the evening news. With other 1,200 people registering their interest on our Facebook event, we are anticipating a massive turnout and you just know that, being Passing Clouds, it will be a glorious spectacle!
We will meet at Hoxton Square at 4pm, set off at 5pm and march to Passing Clouds for a drum ceremony and official handing over of our business proposal to Garry Simpson of Landhold Developments (fingers crossed he turns up!), then go to Gillett Square for talks, poetry, music and performance until 10pm.
If you’re on Facebook, please click HERE to click Going to the march and go the extra mile by inviting your friends too!
We are also in need of volunteers for admin in the run up to the march as well as stewards and first aiders at the event itself. If you can help please email us we@passingclouds.org with Volunteer in the subject line.
More updates on our progress to come soon - watch this space.
Eternal love and infinite thanks to you all for your support.
