Aye up duckies,

I know many are eagerly awaiting for an update on the petition.. unfortunately so am I..

As you know the petition was submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council on 2nd September; it was sent to both the planning department and the legal department.

According to the Amber Valley Borough Council website petition guidelines:

“ If a petition contains not less than 1,200 signatures it will be debated by the full council unless it is a petition asking for a senior council officer to give evidence at a public meeting. This means that the issue raised in the petition will be discussed at a meeting which all councillors can attend. The council will endeavour to consider the petition at its next meeting”

The guidelines also state “An acknowledgement will be sent to the petition organiser within 10 working days of receiving the petition. It will let them know what we plan to do with the petition and when they can expect to hear from us again. “

As I had no personal acknowledgement, Henry Thompson chased this up on my behalf and contacted the ABVC legal team. At first, he was told that the petition would be considered at a full council meeting in January… Henry followed up the email to make a point that the local plan is finalised in November and that Leafy Lane needs to be discussed before then… the follow-up response was that Leafy Lane will be discussed at the next full Council meeting in November..

I would have appreciated some personal communication regarding the meeting, after all, it is only polite to acknowledge council tax-paying residents with concerns in the community. And not following their own guidelines is surely unprofessional especially as our petition reached over 1500 signatures!

As I have had no formal update on this petition, I am waiting with anticipation to see if it shows on the Full Council agenda next month…

All we can do now is hold our breath and wait.. my only concern next is, unless the minutes are posted how will we really know if this meeting took place.?!?!?!
