As we approach the Council Cabinet voting on the library closures – we need your help to make as much noise as possible. Together, we can save Westdene Library and keep all the libraries open.
Local children have already written letters to Santa to say what the library means to them which will be reported in The Argus.
Now its our turn. Please email or call the Cabinet Councillors soon as possible who are voting on the proposed closures on the 11th Dec to share your views and concerns. We know the conversations are already happening in advance of the vote itself. You could make all the difference to how a councillor votes by highlighting important issues they may have missed.
Below are some suggestions to include and the relevant contact details:
1) Share your experience of using the library and how you feel the closure will impact the community. Great to mention impact on different groups (kids, pensioners, those with mobility challenges, those with special needs).
2) Include that Patcham library is NOT a suitable alternative to Westdene library given its distance from Westdene and lack of transport links.
3) Highlight how much the school uses the library as a resource and the fact that the council’s data and decision making fails to take this into consideration (including the impact that any closure will have on the school and its pupils).
4) Ask how the Councillor is intending to vote at the upcoming session and whether they would like any further information on our great library.
