The EXCELLENT STROKE UNIT at Margate QEQM Hospital is recommended for closure. Findings from a recent public consultation by NHS managers have been ignored. THANET and east coast STROKE PATIENTS will have to travel the FORTY miles to ASHFORD William Harvey Hospital. AMBULANCES in coastal areas, including Thanet, Whitstable and Deal, take more than half an hour to arrive with patients and at least another HOUR to reach Ashford. This goes against the FAST recommendation. We believe it is WRONG will lead to worse OUTCOMES for patients, leading to increased DISABILITY and a greater chance of DEATH from a stroke.

WE call on this proposal to be scrapped. QEQM needs a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. East Kent needs three excellent hospitals to serve the health needs of the community.
