This is a response to a post made on the Save Our Stillwell Petition written on 9/26/25 by a “claimed”Decision Maker Darcy A. Belyea who is the Nassau County Parks Commissioner.  Remember that Stillwell Woods Preserve is currently a Perpetual Preserve owned by Nassau County.

To: Nassau County Parks Commissioner Darcy A. Beyea

You attended a Nassau County OSPAC Meeting. There were several Meetings full of Misinformation provided by both the Nassau County Lawyer and the Town Of Oyster Bay Lawyer. It was clear that these Lawyers had a goal to convince the OSPAC Members that this would be a beneficial transfer for the Residents and Tax Payers of Nassau County.

Fortunately the OSPAC Members are educated and capable of asking all the appropriate questions and are well versed regarding the transfer of Land in Nassau County.

Ultimately the OSPAC Board voted AGAINST the Transfer of Stillwell Woods Preserve. For all those interested please view the Video links posted at the start of the Save Our Stillwell fb page.

Nassau County Parks Commissioner
Darcy A. Belyea you have been sent many emails regarding our concerns regarding Stillwell Woods Preserve and have not responded to any of these emails.

Now let’s talk about the SURVEY. We have been told over and over again that there would be no Survey of the Property until after the Transfer was completed. Please view the OSPAC meetings for confirmation. How could there be no actual Survey until after the State process of Alienation of Park Land especially when the Inter Municipal Agreement between the Town and County requires a Survey before any Transfer.

We did meet with Supervisor Joe Saladino and his top staff and legal counsel on 7/16/2025 where the subject of the Survey was discussed at length. We were told that they have now finally agreed to do the Survey before this attempted Transfer. I assume that they realized that the Survey is a requirement of the Transfer and that we were going to make sure that it were properly implemented and needs to show the  border between the Sports Fields and the Wooded portion of the Preserve.

On 9/26/25 we were told the Survey was in process and would take approximately 8 Weeks. It is now 1/3/26 and there is no completed Survey! I find it interesting that the completed Survey may actually appear just before this Transfer will be brought up to Albany for the Alienation Of Park Land process.

Besides this questionable delay regarding the Survey which seems to be months overdue, could you please review the Steps taken by both the County and the Town where there have been many Alienation  requirements regarding Stillwell have either been ignored or not followed correctly.

We have tried to move forward in a positive and open minded way.
We are only looking for the Absolute Guarantee of the Wooded Portion of Stillwell Woods Preserve both now and in the future . Unfortunately we have not seen any physical evidence that gives us any hope of these protections.

We look forward to your response.
Thank you
