We received over 1,300 signatures in our first petition and read it to the Board of Education over a week ago. Unfortunately, the Board of Education has not chosen to answer our questions. We think it is important to propose a motion for the school board to act.
In our second petition we are specifically asking for the board to make a motion and vote to at least temporarily suspend all school bus service cuts for 1 year to allow for: 1) Better safety assessments and safety planning for all children (not just for children with advocates)
2) Convening a committee with broad stakeholder engagement to brainstorm alternatives to school bus cuts and subsequently a public hearing prior to decision making.
After you have signed the above NEW petition, please share the link with your Howard County contacts and local organizations. We would love to get to 200 signatures going into the holiday. Our timeline is short, given that the last board meeting before the new school year is on July 13th.
