Dear friends of the libraries,
Thank you for your tremendous support of our campaign to save Stirling libraries from imminent potential closure. At the Stirling Council Budget meeting on 29 February 2024, it was confirmed that NO libraries within the Stirling Council area will be closed in the coming year.
However, the budget allocation for the libraries has been cut by £100,000, which may result in reduced opening hours or staffing cuts to some or all of the 17 libraries within the Stirling area. This £100,000 cut has been reallocated to––according to the approved budget for 2024/25––'library modernisation and fund for future sustainability.'
We must presume that, although the libraries have been saved this year, they will need our ongoing support in the years to come. The 'fund for future sustainability' will most likely be used (and we will be clarifying this with the council) to investigate and record the footfall and usage of each of our libraries, and may result in future recommendations for consolidation or closure.
Therefore, we may need your help in the future so please continue to follow us on Facebook.
As for now, the best way to support our wonderful local libraries in the coming weeks and months is to join your local library (if you haven't already), visit often to borrow books (and take them back!), and share news with friends and on social media (and attend) events happening in your local library.
We need to #UseItOrLoseIt.
With many, many thanks again,
Susan (on behalf of SaveOur LibrariesStirling)
