We are 200 voices strong, and we are within reach of something powerful. We need just 100 more signatures to move into the next phase.

Our school community is stepping up, and now it’s time to turn that momentum into action.

Next Steps: Sending Petition to Decision-Makers

This petition is about protecting an essential academic resource for our students. Vintage is one of the larger elementary schools in the area, serving more than 700 students. Ideally, 50% of our families—approximately 400 parents, guardians, and family members—would be represented. While that remains the long-term vision, we are setting a focused and attainable goal of 300 signatures, or 40% of our student community.

Reaching 300 signatures allows us to formally submit this petition to LAUSD Board Member Scott Schmerelson and Principal Dixon, ensuring that the academic needs of our students are clearly documented and brought forward.

Right now, 5th grade families are showing up in force. To truly represent our school, we urgently need 1st and 2nd grade families to be part of this effort. Early literacy is foundational to long-term academic success.

If you know a parent, guardian, or family member of a 1st or 2nd grade Vintage student, please share this petition with them today. Every signature matters, and every grade level deserves a voice.

2nd Steps: Strengthening Advocacy for Academic Support

The second phase of this effort involves outreach beyond the school site. We will contact parents and guardians who have signed and are willing to meet with City Council Member John Lee, who has a long-standing record of supporting schools in securing funding when the district falls short.

We plan to request a meeting through Ron Rubine, Senior Advisor, to assist with hosting a meeting in which parents can share direct testimony on how our school librarian has supported their child’s literacy, learning habits, or academic growth.

These experiences provide essential context and underscore why this position is vital to student learning and schoolwide academic success.

Thank you for supporting our students and helping with secure resources they need to learn and thrive.
