Contact Your MP To Halt Forcible Landline Transfers!

The Government is refusing to stop the telecom companies from scrapping traditional landlines without the consent of the customer. We are therefore calling on all our fantastic petition supporters to contact their local MP, of whatever party, asking them to lobby Sir Chris Bryant, the Telecoms Minister, to urge him to stop forcible landline transfers and to meet with Silver Voices to hear our safety concerns about the programme.

Always give your full name and address so that the MP knows you are one of their constituents. It is better if you compose your own email or letter but here is a sample email for you to use if it is more convenient: 

Dear(name of MP), as my constituency MP I would like to draw your attention to the following petition about the resumed roll-out of the programme to switch all traditional landlines to internet-based phones by January 2027.

Despite the concerns expressed in the petition about the lack of enhanced safety measures for older and vulnerable people, and the mass public support for this petition, the relevant Government Department (DSIT) is refusing to stop the telecom companies from resuming the compulsory roll-out. DSIT is even refusing to meet with our campaign organisation Silver Voices to hear our safety concerns. 

If this roll-out proceeds as planned it is inevitable that some older and vulnerable customers who are transferred against their wishes to a digital phone will find themselves unable to make an emergency call when they need to, possibly with tragic results. 

Please will you contact the Telecoms Minister, Sir Chris Bryant, on my behalf, urging him to stop forcible landline transfers until enhanced safety measures are in place, and to meet with Silver Voices to hear our safety concerns.
