Dear Supporters

We realise that this online petition may not reach the most vulnerable persons in your community, as potentially the most severely and negatively impacted by the removal of our analogue/copper landlines.

Please find a flyer attached, which you can give or send to as many people as possible. Even better, you could print a few out and put them on the counters of your local shops, hairdressers, post offices, gathering points, libraries, and anywhere else you think will reach those affected in your community. You can also point others in the direction of signing our online petition. This will create awareness, discussion and the much needed debate about the truth, and the current safety of these new digital phone lines.

We call on BT/Openreach to successfully supply a digital service that has the automated backups and failsafes enabling emergency phone calls that are as simple to use as our current landlines, as well as automatically operational phone lines in a broadband, and/or power outage. These systems should have automatic back up power for many days not minutes, as well as be used anywhere in the UK even if broadband is down.

It is only in this way that the digital switch over can be as reliable and as safe as our current landlines, which will be switched off in 2025.

Up to 91% of persons may not even be aware of this switchover, so please help us to reach more people, especially those not online, to raise awareness and enable everyone who shares our concerns to take their own action, by writing to their MP, and by speaking out, so that these issues can be directly addressed by those that have the power to make change.

Our health, wellbeing and safety must be prioritised over financial gain and technological advancement, so that we can move forward in a sensible and safe way.  This must be done with further development and more advanced systems, with careful consideration, rather than refusing landlines and switching homes to digital even when by their nature, digital phone lines are vulnerable and therefore unreliable & unsafe. Providers must explain the full facts and risks clearly to consumers, and provide clear choice before a reliable system is available. Strict deadlines for switch off can only be realistically issued when the new digital system is actually made safe, reliable and fit for purpose, and not pushed upon us and rushed to meet unrealistic and poorly considered timeframes.

We thank you again for your support and we ask if you could continue to share our petition with colleagues, friends and family.

Beat Wishes
