Advocacy Week Starts NOW: Friday, April 5th - Thursday, April 11th
Please join us for an Early Teacher Appreciation Week Featuring Advocacy!
A great way to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them is through advocacy efforts. Starting this Friday, April 4th through Thursday, April 11th, we're joining our voices to advocate for our teachers, staff, and programs in Howard County. Please don't wait until the traditional Teacher Appreciation Week in May to write a note of thanks. Write all the reasons you love your teachers now and address them to elected leaders who are making plans to cut teachers and staff. Even teachers who are not cut are being asked to take on additional responsibilities to make up for positions being cut. We need to show support of our teachers and staff by speaking up.
ADVOCACY WEEK:
•Friday, April 5: Write an email (whether its your 1st or 50thletter!) to County Executive Calvin Ball with what you love about teachers & staff and share your concerns about cuts: cball@howardcountymd.gov & budgettestimony@howardcountymd.gov.
•Saturday, April 6: Find 5 family members, friends, neighbors and/or other community members to sign this petition or another one asking for the Board of Education to save staff and programs.
•Sunday, April 7: Help your child write a letter to County Executive Ball. Send it by email to the addresses listed above.
•Monday, April 8: Write another message to the Board of Education. Boe@hcpss.org.
•Tuesday, April 9: Post on social media about Thursday’s gathering (see below) or get together with others to make signs for the event.
•Wednesday, April 10: Write to the County Council: councilmail@howardcountymd.gov.
•Thursday, April 11: Show up with signs for the Board of Education meeting. A group will be gathering at 3:30 PM outside and heading indoors for the meeting around 4:00 PM. We’d love to get a strong showing from 3:30-4:30 PM, but if you can only come later, come when you can.

Together our voices are powerful. When we work together as a community, our voices cannot be ignored.
