Based on the above figures, the additional dollar amount that we need to ask the county executive to fund a full restoration of GT and strings teachers & corresponding programming in elementary schools is $1,925,019. [The total needed to fund GT teachers in elementary school is $1,103,687 (Full restoration of GT teachers from the initially proposed cuts would be $1,700,387. The board already budgeted for $596,700 to fund these slots at elementary schools where the percentage of children receiving free and reduced meals was more than 40%. The total needed now is the difference between these two numbers). Similarly for strings $821,332 is the amount to make up the difference between the full amount needed $1,020,232 and the budgeted amount of only $198,900.] We are trying to be very direct in our messaging to the County Executive who can be reached at cball@howardcountymd.gov and budgettestimony@howardcountymd.gov and 410-313-2013 (public contact information).
