Save Magic WayUnited States
Apr 15, 2024

Thank you to everyone who came to last week's Open House (see photo for the KCAL/CBS News coverage)! It was certainly eye-opening. We need another show of support this week. The DisneylandForward vote is this Tuesday, April 16. Once more, here are the details:

  • What: City Council Vote on DisneylandForward
  • When: Tuesday, April 16, 5PM
  • Where: City Hall Council Chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., First Floor
  • Why: Plans for DisneylandForward didn’t stop just because former Mayor Sidhu got caught by the FBI. City Hall keeps pushing the project forward despite known negative impacts to Anaheim. Enough is enough!

In addition to the negative impacts we have already discussed, it has been confirmed that the City of Anaheim is actively misrepresenting the justification for the closure/sale of Magic Way. Per their own online materials: "We are looking at transferring responsibility to relieve public costs for roadways that primarily serve and benefit Disney" (taken from the City of Anaheim website).

Here's how this statement is misleading Anaheim residents:

  • The responsibility for Magic Way does not belong to the City of Anaheim.
  • There have never been "public costs" for the maintenance of Magic Way. The City has never paid costs for Magic Way, so there is no cost avoidance for the residents of Anaheim here.
  • Magic Way is in great condition and even City staff openly acknowledge that the road will not require maintenance for many years.
  • Magic Way does not "primarily serve and benefit Disney." Hundreds of signatories have proven otherwise through both our online and physical petitions - and the numbers keep growing!

At the Open House, and in the presence of witnesses, Anaheim City Management admitted that the City of Anaheim does not pay for the upkeep of Magic Way (neither the road nor the landscaping). Considering this, what responsibility are they really transferring? The justification presented is baseless and actively deceives Anaheim residents/constituents.

Don't let this be another Angel Stadium deal. Please attend the City Hall vote to urge our City Council to do better by the residents of Anaheim and to keep Magic Way open for all. We need transparency, we need change, and we need protection for our quality of life.

If you are unable to make it to the vote, please send an email opposing the DisneylandForward project to publiccomment@anaheim.net. Your email will need to be sent/received prior to the Council meeting.

Additionally, while we have submitted a running total of petition signatures (930 to date between the online and physical petitions!), we are still collecting signatures. Please continue to share the petition with your families, friends, and neighbors.

We are grateful for your support thus far, and are still counting on your voice!
