The Government of India had not yet made the HPV vaccine a part of its universal immunization program. However, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been conducting studies on the effectiveness and safety of the HPV vaccine in Indian populations. The ICMR had also recommended in 2017 that the HPV vaccine be included in the national immunization program for girls aged 9-14 years.

In 2021, it was reported that the Indian government had reduced the price of the HPV vaccine, making it more affordable for people. The cost of the vaccine had been reduced to Rs 1,100 per dose, which is about 40% less than the previous price.
