The lovely wooded land pictured above is a view of the 9 acres of Hermann Park that Harris County is currently planning to condemn and give via eminent domain (against the wishes of the original donor of the land) to Ben Taub so that they can expand adjacent to their current building.
Please sign the petition below to object to this expansion plan. There are better alternatives for Ben Taub to expand access to public healthcare more broadly across Harris County rather than build on this 9 acres just to add 100 beds in an already very congested area.
This plan is both bad way to expand healthcare access and a terrible thing to do to Hermann Park and our rapidly disappearing mature tree canopy. Neighborhoods around Hermann Park lost over 1/3 of their tree canopy in the decade between 2011 and 2021. We have to draw the line and not let developers pave over everything in Houston.
