We feel an impact study from natural hazards to unnatural impacts must be completed and that rezoning of the 800 acres should be paused until a better understanding is reached about development there. Coulterville and Birchwood are in the migration corridor to many species including Monarch butterflies and Sandhill cranes. 

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, urban development is one of the primary drivers affecting the health of Monarch butterflies.

Sandhill cranes use the 0.5 acre pond and earthen dam.

Hamilton County TN public works administrator stated the county might decide to eliminate the pond.

We feel this pond should be fixed or restored rather than filling it in all at taxpayers’ expense. 

We feel that 238 acres devoted to recreational use is not enough considering that 80 acres are centered around the farmhouse for County Fair purposes.

We feel that the number should be increased because, as the magnitude of the county fair increases, more land may be required for its operation and may reduce further the amount of recreational acreage. Additionally, we feel that any wetland or swampy areas should not be counted in the recreational total.

We feel that the Environmental Protection Agency needs to perform a comprehensive study of all plant, animal, and insect life in the affected region to determine possible damage to the environment or wildlife.

We ask that our county leaders take into consideration that residents of the area, as well as interested parties of the farm, will be affected by the Hamilton County Commission’s actions long after development takes place and the current leaders have left office. We ask for a commitment to assuring that as much land as possible is protected from industrial and commercial development on the farm.
