As we begin the 2024-2025 school year, we are pleased to announce that Memphis Street Academy (MSA) will continue to operate for the remainder of the school year. However, we still face significant challenges. MSA does not have a signed charter agreement, and ongoing litigation continues to pose barriers, particularly in retaining teachers—an essential factor in meeting our students' holistic needs, including their social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Certified teachers are crucial for ensuring student success both inside and outside of the classroom, offering continuity in education despite the uncertainties we face. What we do know is that MSA will continue to serve as a vital resource for our scholars, families, and community members this school year. MSA will continue offering services such as its free school-based health clinic, monthly produce giveaways to combat rising food insecurity, and a free English learning program for parents and guardians who don't speak the language. The potential closure of MSA would displace over 500 students, 96% of whom identify as Hispanic, Black, or Multi-racial. Our school is not just a place of learning, but a safe haven and a cornerstone of support for our community.
We urgently need your continued support to keep our doors open. Please share our petition, stay informed, and stand with us in this critical fight for the future of our scholars and our community.
