A huge thank you to everyone who supported us, signed and shared the petition, offered encouragement and helped us tell the story of this little street. More than 760 people ultimately signed — for a street with just 11 homes. That says a lot.
Halifax Regional Council voted unanimously today to reject staff recommendation to rename Lynwood Drive. Even more meaningful to us, councillors recognized its importance to Halifax’s Lebanese history and agreed that the way we define heritage needs to better capture the stories of immigrant and marginalized communities whose histories weren’t always written down.
Thank you for caring about our family’s story and about the generations of Lebanese newcomers who found their way to Halifax through this little corner of Rockingham.
