Dear Local Residents,
As your Almondbury Ward Councillor, I am up for Re-Election on Thursday May 6th. I hope I can count on your support, so I continue to campaign for you and local residents who are against Kirklees Labour Run Council allowing 851 houses to be built in Lepton & Fenay Bridge.
I answered the concerns of residents living near to the Dartmouth Estate, when they phoned and email me regarding the cutting of protected trees without permission in the land of Hermitage Park. I have made numerous trips to Dartmouth Estate and thanks to those residents Kirklees will now protect more trees and look at appropriate action to be taken on the alleged breach of planning. I am still opposed to any houses being built here and along with this petition, have highlighted the campaign for local residents via leaflets Facebook, Examiner, videos I am still the only Almondbury Ward Councillor that attends Lepton Vision meetings. My Team, Lepton Ward Cllrs Bob Smith and James Spivey also attend.
The first portion of a massive housing scheme on the outskirts afraid has been given the green light. A 5.6-acre parcel of agricultural land off the A629 Penistone Road at Fenay Bridge, will accommodate 68 homes. The site, known as Site HS1 in Kirklees Council’s Local Plan, The plan was approved with all Kirklees Labour Councillors voting in favour to approve development.
This is part of a much larger scheme that Kirklees Labour Council want that includes a nearby 23-acre plot of land adjacent to Penistone Road and Woodsome Park set for 268 houses. That is HS2. Another nearby 31-acre site to the south east of Hermitage Park, off Rowley Lane, is earmarked for 312 homes. That is HS3. The development was approved by the Strategic Planning Committee despite concerns from local people and myself about flooding, impact on local roads such as Penistone Road, Rowley Lane and Station Road and the density of the housing scheme. Noise from the road, air quality, rising traffic on the A629 Penistone Road – etc. Officers said negotiations with the developer had reduced the number of houses from 74, and that 68 was considered acceptable for the size of the site.
The closure of Almondbury Community School [in 2019] has caused disruption to secondary education in particular. “With more building planned for Lepton and Fenay Bridge, the accumulated effect could have a major impact on where children can go to school in the future.
