Eaten Burritos or drank Mojitos? Have you, perhaps, tasted a delicious South American Coffee? If so, you have a memory to share with us! Come and we will make it last! Mapping Memories is a researching tool and visualisation platform that stands for the recognition of Latin Americans in the UK. The project is carried out by Veronica Posada and Lorena Raigoso. In London, Mapping Memories aims to make visible the cultural practices of the Latin American community whilst strengthening community cohesion and a reinforcing a sense of belonging in the areas in which Latin Americans live, work and meet. We advocate for the protection of Latin American spaces that are at risk of demolition due to the dynamics of regeneration and gentrification in the city of London. Mapping Memories will be presenting its results at The Koppel Project as part of the exhibition: ‘Mitologia de la Tierra’, gathering Colombian artists who are considered key voices in understanding the Colombian Identity. We have attached information about the exhibition. Mapping Memories will be featured in the decompression room. We will be exchanging memories between visitors and Latin Americans about the meaning of Latin London. The project is focused on the two principal meeting points for Latin Americans in London: Elephant and Castle and Seven Sisters Indoor Market. We aim to create awareness among participants around the cultural practices strengthened and reinforced in these two areas and why it is important to protect these spaces under threat from the regeneration projects in London.
