For those who took the time to attend or call into the Bike-Ped meeting, thank you.  You heard firsthand the opposition to the proposed plan to alter the Boardwalk.

Inquiring minds want to know. Is this change because of safety and maintenance concerns as  stated in the meeting or just to move forward with a highly opposed plan to change the Boardwalk?

If the former, this is a serious issue.  Maintenance of the Boardwalk has never been and is not the oversight/jurisdiction of a Bike-Ped Committee.  Major overstep. If the later, it’s just hiding behind a weak safety argument to push forward this multipurpose agenda. Again, with much community opposition.

Bottom line: This decision is agenda driven. Otherwise a very, very insignificant (2 small blocks to be exact) portion of a much larger plan would be at the very bottom of the list of priorities. The very fact that it’s not been tabled until more data and feedback can be gathered speaks to this point.

Why has there not been a Historical/Preservation Boardwalk Committee formed? With all the dedicated, talented, and resourceful residents of Kure, there are people at the ready to assist with a volunteer crew to help maintain our  iconic and beloved Boardwalk.

Why has there been no/limited conversation with the public regarding a safety/maintenance “crisis” that is now so urgent to address?

Why has there been no conversation with residents for a potential offset for those maintenance “crisis” costs? A mere $12/yr increase has received quite a bit of positive community feedback by residents if it means preserving the Boardwalk as she stands today.

Even during our busiest of busy seasons, there are no issues or traffic accidents on Atlantic Ave. People are kind, courteous and friendly - just the kind of nature Kure Beach residents are known for.
