Save Kenvue Site from Development of 417 New Homes & Preserve the Rural Montgomery

The Issue

To: Local and State Elected Officials, Planning Authorities, and Environmental Oversight Agencies

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Montgomery Township and beyond, strongly oppose the proposed development at the Kenvue site, located near Grandview and Fairview Roads in Skillman, NJ. This plan would cause irreversible harm to the environment, undermine public safety, burden taxpayers, and permanently alter the rural character of our community.

Environmental Concerns
The Kenvue site is part of a recognized Wildlife and Conservation Management Program. It contains protected wetlands that support a diverse ecosystem. These wetlands provide critical natural functions such as flood control and water purification—services that benefit the entire township. Development would destroy this delicate balance, worsen flooding, and threaten local biodiversity.

 Public Safety and Infrastructure Issues
The area’s infrastructure is already under strain. The surrounding roads—including a one-lane historic bridge and a dangerous S-curve on Fairview Road—were not designed to handle high traffic volumes. Adding more housing would only worsen congestion, reduce safety, and accelerate the erosion of the quiet, rural quality that defines Skillman.

Why the Kenvue Site is Unsuitable
It is an income-producing property that helps offset local taxes.
It houses a historic building designed by I. M. Pei, the world-renowned architect of the Louvre’s glass pyramid.
Demolishing this site would remove tax revenue while creating new demands on schools, roads, emergency services, and utilities—all likely to be paid for by taxpayers.
The site has no public water or sewer, requiring costly infrastructure expansion.
There are visible contamination warnings, and the site lies within the environmentally sensitive Sourland Mountain region.

We Respectfully Urge Township Officials To:
Reject any development plans for the Kenvue site.
Preserve the land’s environmental, historical, and financial value.
Explore more appropriate alternatives that do not sacrifice our rural identity or natural resources.
