Hello everyone.
Karen’s feeding tube replacement under GA that was planned to be on the 5th of January was postponed by the hospital. It was done on the 12th of January. Karen is still recovering from this.
Karen should have been weighed soon after being admitted to the ward, especially as she came in very thin and malnourished.
The only suitable way of weighing Karen is a weigh bed. Karen needs to be on this for the duration of the admission so her weight can be tracked to ensure that she is gaining weight. The hospital uses bariatric weigh beds. These are larger than usual hospital beds.
We have been asking for the hospital to weigh Karen since she came in. We have raised this a number of times, including with the ward matron.
It was eventually decided by the ward that the weigh bed would not fit in the room Karen is in. Karen suggested she be moved to the gastro ward which have some rooms big enough to accommodate the weigh bed. We were told that they would let her know when a suitable room on the gastro ward became available. However, Karen has not been moved to a suitable room and is therefore still not on a weigh bed.
Over the last few weeks, the Trust made several unsuitable plans regarding weighing Karen without discussing them with her. This has caused Karen a lot of stress and has wasted a lot of time and Karen’s energy.
We are unhappy and concerned that Karen’s weight is not being tracked on a weigh bed. We continue to want Karen to be moved to a suitable room where this can be done.
