This newsletter is from Community Living London. MCCSS did not like the model of housing disabled adults with seniors and neither does Community Living London. They want disabled adults to only live together but how is this inclusive I ask. Just more information about Jake’s House

On Monday, August 22nd, Community Living Ontario

CEO Chris Beesley met virtually with Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Ontario's Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, to re-engage and continue our advocacy efforts.

Minister Fullerton and Mr. Beesley discussed a number of topics, including the development of Jake's House in Lucan, Ontario. This facility has been developed to house 34 autistic people, along with 20 senior citizens.

From Community Living Ontario's perspective, this facility has ethical, philosophical, and systemic breaches that make it untenable. Its existence flies in the face of the Ministry's strategy for developmental services, Journey to Belonging: Choice and Inclusion.

For her part, Minister Fullerton and her staff committed to further discussions with us on this topic. She also committed to further meetings with the Council of Community Living Ontario, following a successful first meeting this past April. We look forward to continuing our advocacy efforts with Minister Fullerton and appreciate her enthusiasm for connecting with Community Living Ontario and Council.

Note: Community Living Ontario has commissioned a shadow report on Jake's House, that will look at the facts regarding how this facility came to be and how it is currently operating.

* this was during Dr. Fullerton’s time in office as Minister of Children, Community and Social Services of Ontario from 2021-2023. The person in charge of this ministry has changed four times in the last six years. The position is currently being held by Michael Parsa. He also looks after long term care.
