Petition updateSave IRSC swimming and diving programs

Title: We bought time. The fight isn’t over.

Thank you. Because of your signatures, shares and voices, the IRSC Board of Trustees did not vote to eliminate swimming and diving at today’s meeting. They tabled the recommendation, and the issue will come back to the board on November 17.

This is a pause, not a win. A vote is still coming, and the program is still at risk.

Here’s what we know, The plan also calls for:

Moving baseball, softball and men’s basketball from NJCAA Division I to Division II, where IRSC’s volleyball team already competes.
Evaluating whether to reinstate women’s basketball for 2028-29. The program was eliminated in 2024.

The board asked President Moore to prepare a report on the program before the next meeting.

The college says the program’s cost is the reason for the proposal. The public is only now seeing these numbers, and we believe the community deserves time to respond to them and offer solutions.

If approved, the cuts would take effect in the 2027-28 school year.

What we can do before Nov. 17:

Keep sharing this petition. We’re past 12,500 signatures, and every one counts.

Email the trustees and ask them to keep the program and explore every alternative, including fundraising, sponsorships and cost-sharing.

Come to the Nov. 17 meeting if you can.  1pm @ Board Room A301 (Ben L. Bryan Administration Building) on the Massey Campus in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Pledge support if you’re an alum, parent or local business willing to help fund the program, by contacting me on my email emesmith1210@gmail.com

Thank you for standing up for IRSC swimming and diving. I'll keep you posted
