NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT – BLOCK IOWA SENATE BILL 3033 on TUESDAY, January 20
Just a reminder that an Iowa Senate subcommittee of the State Government Committee will hold a public hearing in Des Moines at the State Capitol on Tuesday, January 20, at 1:30 p.m. The hearing will start promptly at 1:30 pm and is scheduled to last 30 minutes.
We cannot allow the Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) to prevail with a bill they introduced in the Iowa Senate (SSB 3033), which “strikes the requirement that the department maintain such a research center in Iowa City.”
If you plan to join the subcommittee hearing online, here is the link Iowa Legislature - Subcommittee Meeting Detail
When the subcommittee hearing is about to begin you can click the highlighted link “Subcommittee Meeting Detail” and then click on the video camera logo next to “Meeting Info” and this will take you to the Webex page, which is the same thing as zoom, just a different platform and allow you to join.
Try to install WebEx on your laptop or phone and set up an account. We want to remove any obstacles to your participation online so please check this out beforehand. https://www.webex.com
There is still time to send a message to committee members or submit a comment online.
We are very impressed by the number and variety of public comments submitted in advance by our allies, who represent a broad, and articulate spectrum of supporters. We are grateful to our colleagues who wrote messages and hope everyone will continue to offer personal testimony as to the value of SHSI’s research center in Iowa City as we continue working with the legislators.
Let the people speak, through their legislators, on how to best protect our heritage. This nonpartisan issue requires closer scrutiny by our political leadership and all Iowans, regardless of where they live. Please direct their attention to: https://saveiowahistory.org
