My name is Jason, and I’m part of the Civic Engagement Team at Change.org. Our mission is to connect petition supporters with decision makers and to help foster healthy civic engagement in our communities.

I want to share an update based on our outreach to public officials. All recognized the heart behind this petition. The Children’s Museum is clearly a beloved part of Coeur d’Alene, and your signatures helped spotlight how much this place means to families.

Here’s what city officials shared:

  • The issue was raised at a recent City Council meeting.
  • Much of the interior has already been demolished, utilities have been removed, and other pre-demolition work is underway.
  • We were told that saving the structure at this point would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and isn’t feasible.

That reality is hard, especially when a building holds so many memories. At the same time, the community’s support can carry the museum’s mission forward no matter the ultimate outcome. Supporters like you are keeping the spirit of the program and the experiences people value alive so they can continue and grow no matter the location.

How to stay engaged: Keep your advocacy constructive and focused on the path ahead—one option is supporting efforts to secure a suitable new location and ways to sustain the programming families love.

The petition starter can share any updates from the museum or local officials here so supporters know where encouragement and participation are most helpful.

We hope you found this update useful,

Jason and the Civic Engagement Team
